DAD'S
AND SON'S FLORIDA BASS FISHING TRIPS
There is no
finer thrill to experience then the expression on a youngster's
face when they hook and land a Florida bass. These kids have a
way of going over all of the details of how they caught that Florida
bass that really makes it very exciting to listen to. They somehow
always seem to make the bass a pound or more bigger each time
they tell the story. In any event there is no other lasting memory
a father and son could ever experience together that will always
be talked about over the years during all the family holiday get
togethers.

Bass Fishing Dad's & Son's Report:
December
26 & 27, 1997
7 1/2 lbs
Florida
bass fishing produced this 7 1/2 lb.bass.
Had
a father and son team out shiner fishing for one and a half days
(Dec. 26th. & 27th. 1997). Richard and his eleven year old
son Robert (Robbie) Mahler (Staten Island, NY - e-mail: mahler@aol.com)
caught and released 26
bass up to 7 1/2 lbs.
We had 10 bass that ran from 4 to 4 1/2 lbs. Robbie hooked
and landed the 7 1/2 lber all by himself. This bass was
first hooked by Robbies dad a half hour earlier and got
away after it threw the hook when it jumped clear out of the water....
The reason I know it was the same bass is that it had a chunk
of flesh still bloody ripped out of it's mouth! In
the 14 years that I have guided on Okeechobee I would have to
say that this has happened several times with clients I have had
out. In fact, I have had my clients hook big fish that we saw
and lost simply by immediately casting a fresh wild
shiner right out where they lost the fish. Robbie will never let
his dad forget how he lost that 7 1/2 lber. I of course
helped to add fuel to that memory.

Guided a father
and his 10 year old son for a day (Dec. 23, 1997) of wild shiner
fishing on lake Okeechobee (Mike and son Nick Kropp - Franklin,
WI - e-mail: klmnkropp@webtv.net). We managed to put
10
bass in the boat up to 6 lbs. Nick
hooked and landed the 6 lber with a little help from his
dad. We fished the North Shore of the lake around the floating
grass islands. Morning fishing was slow because I could not move
around to locate active fish due to a heavy fog that blanketed
the lake all morning. We however had plenty of action during the
afternoon session of fishing. Mike and Nick released all the fish.
Florida
bass fishing produced this 4 1/2 lb.bass
Don
Knezick and his 7 year old son Steven (Columbus, NJ - e-mail:
Don@PinelandsNursery.com) caught this nice 4 1/2 lb. bass. Steven's
8 year old brother who also fished in another boat with his mom
(Suzanne) had his share of catching some nice sized bass. The
look on Steven's face upon landing this bass is beyond words!

Florida
bass fishing produced this 10 lb.trophy bass
that was caught
by Michael Ponte (West Orange, NJ - ph: 201-736-2122 - 201-674-2254).
This "huge" Florida bass and another7 3/4 lb'er that
fell for a wild shiner was landed by Michael with a little help
from his dad.
