FLORIDA BASS FISHING
GUIDE: CAPTAIN
RON
LAKE OKEECHOBEE FLORIDA
Florida
bass fishing on Lake Okeechobee for trophy bass. Everything you need to know about Florida
bass fishing on Lake Okeechobee - best time to come, fishing license,
what to bring, lodging, fishing rates and much more.

LAKE OKEECHOBEE
The
Seminole Indian name Okeechobee actually means big water, an appropriate
title for the largest freshwater lake in the United States occurring
entirely in one state. The lake including its access canals and
rim canals is approximately 37 miles long by 30 miles wide (448,000
acres, 700 square miles) with an average depth of almost 10 feet.
It has approximate 140 miles of levee around it with an average
height of 34 feet. It is the 2nd Largest Freshwater Lake in the
U.S. To fishermen nation wide, Okeechobee is renowned for the
sheer numbers of bass it contains per acre and the fact that it
produces more Florida trophy bass over 8 pounds than any lake
in Florida and the United States!
LAKE
OKEECHOBEE RIM & ACCESS CANAL AREAS
WE GUIDE FISH ON
We
primarily guide fish on Lake Okeechobee, the rim canals that surround
Lake Okeechobee and the boat ramp access canals that give boaters
access to Lake Okeechobee. A client will be fishing either out
on Lake Okeechobee or just in the rim canals and/or access canals
depending on where the fish have been located or thought to be
holding by your guide. Your guide has sole priority over the area
chosen to fish which is determined by the fishing conditions,
the weather conditions, windy conditions and/or low water conditions
which would make fishing out on the big lake not safe and dangerous.

FISHING WITH SHINERS
Is by far the
most productive way to land a Florida trophy bass. The beauty
of shiner fishing is that you don't have to be a bass fishing
angler of the year to really experience the thrill of fighting
trophy size bass. Fishing with shiners is a sure shot method of
landing a Florida trophy bass. The going price for shiners is
$14.00 per dozen. During the winter months when they become scarce
they can cost as much as $18.00 per dozen! A party can expect
to use - depending on how good the fish are biting - anywhere
from 6 - 8 dozen shiners during a full day of fishing. That's $84.00 - $112.00 per day that you would pay in
addition to your guide rate charges.
Keep this in mine
when you are planing your trip's budget. To take the sting out
of this additional expense - which can amount into hundreds of
dollars over a period of days - Captain Ron provides his party
with 6 dozen shiners in the 2 half day 1 night Special Fishing
Package rate
free
of charge

FISHING WITH ARTIFICIAL LURES
Is by far the
most economical way to bass fish. At $170.00 for a 4 hour half
day morning or afternoon of bass fishing for 2 persons or $280.00
for an 8 hour day of bass fishing for 2 persons ($140.00 per person
a day) Captain Ron again offers a guide fishing rate a client
can afford. A party may also combine some shiner fishing while
they are fishing with artificial lures by purchasing a dozen or
more shiners if they wish. Likewise, crappie, bluegill and shellcracker
fishing can be combined under our artificial bass fishing rate.

FISHING
HOURS
Our full day bass fishing rate is for a 8 hour straight
day of fishing from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

to 4:00 p.m.
Our
2
half

1 night
special
shiner fishing package rate is
for two 4 hour sessions of bass fishing. The first 4 hour half
day session of bass fishing is during the afternoon of your first
day from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. After fishing you would check
in and stay the night. Your second 4 hour half day session of
bass fishing is on the following day during the morning from 6:30
a.m to 10:30 a.m.
You will be provided
with 3 dozen shiners for "each" 4 hour session of bass
fishing free
of charge.

WHEN'S
THE BEST TIME TO COME?
Is the foremost
question I am asked by every angler planning a trophy bass fishing
trip to Lake Okeechobee. In the 21 years I have guided on Okeechobee
I would honestly have to say that there really isn't a bad time
to
fish
Okeechobee. Take for example the 2 pictures on this page. The
first picture a 10 lb. trophy bass was caught using a shiner in
October along with 47 other bass that also included an 8 1/4 lb,
7 3/4 lb and a 6 lb'er. The second picture a 7 lb'er and 84 other
bass up to 6 lbs were caught on shiners in July. The summer months
and early fall months produce good numbers of fish as well as
trophy bass. The spawn (November - April) when the fish are bedding
is considered to be the better months to catch a trophy Lake Okeechobee
bass. Click here for
a fishing report with photos on every month of the year from 1998
to the present latest fishing reports that are updated daily.

SEASONAL
WEATHER
Winter's general
day temperature is 75 degrees. Nights and mornings are
cool
to cold. Late spring and early fall days are in the 80's. Summer
days range in the 80's - 90's. Rainfall during the winter, early
spring and late fall is slight. Brief afternoon showers are common
in late spring, throughout the summer and early fall. Guides fish
"rain
or shine and under all weather conditions". Rain gear is a must bring item. If you
are fishing during the winter months, be sure to bring some warm
clothing with you -- it can get
quite
cold at times.
Hopefully bad weather does not interfere with your reserved fishing
trip. We do not offer rain checks or a refund in the event a party
is not able to fish due to bad weather conditions. We have no
control over the weather and therefore we cannot be responsible
for the disruption of your trip due to bad weather. Please bring
rain gear with you. If bad weather moves in the decision to leave
is up to the guide.

BASS
BOATS - AIRBOATS
Captain Ron
usually guides out of a 20 foot custom made 2006 Diamondback airboat. He also has a 21 foot Allison
bass
boat with a 150 hp.
Evinrude motor. The local self-employed professional USCG licensed
guides that work for Ron's Guide Service and other guide services
around the lake have one of the many high performance bass boats
that are on the market today. All guide fishing boats are equipped
with U.S. Coast Guard approved PFD's for each person as required
by law.
AIRBOAT
- DIAMONDBACK
2006
YEAR MODEL
Here's
Captain Ron's new 2006 Diamondback 20 foot custom crafted airboat.
This one of
a kind huge airboat on Lake Okeechobee is powered by a 496 cubic
inch GM Levitator 8.1 HO fuel in-jected motor that has a horse
power ranting of 425 - 450 hp. A CH 2.1 gear reduction box that
turns a 3 blade ultra wide Q series Sensenich propeller 4800 rpm
and a custom built stainless steel exhaust system makes this airboat
the quietest airboat you will ever ride in.
I
have not to date had a client ask for ear plugs!
Custom built into
the deck is a large insulated livewell and cooler. There are also
7 other large built in below deck and 2 under the seat storage
compartments. A custom installed 80 lb. trust Minn-Kota trolling
motor, 2 front mounted fishing seats, a 6 foot bench seat, 2 KC
lights in the grass rake covered by Lexan, 2 KC lights on the
prop guard cage, center console instrument panel, Power Pole Anchor
and a full walk around deck make fishing from this airboat a true
pleasure. A fold down bimini top is an added pleasure of providing
shade and rain protection during a party's fishing trip.

NAFC
APPROVED
Captain Ron
is proud to
announce
that his guide service has earned the approved status from the
North American Fishing Club. Captain Ron incidentally has earned this status
since 1989 and would
like to emphasize that approved status must be earned. In other
words Ron's Guide Service could not earn this status simply by
taking someone affiliated with the NAFC out fishing for free.
To receive fishing reports from other fishermen describing the
quantity of fish caught, competence of guide, conditions of boat
and motor and accommodations - call the NAFC at (612-988-7401).
