Lake Okeechobee women anglers bass fishing
reports and pictures from the calendar year of 1997. This Florida
freshwater lake over the 22 years I have operated a trophy bass
fishing guide service on has produced on a person to person (male
to female) ratio "more trophy bass to women anglers"
It seems the girls are able to put more Okeechobee trophy bass
in the boat far more offen then the experienced men anglers!

caught and released by Carol Garland as
her husband Mike yelled "o well" when the trophy bass
of his dreams was landed by his wife. Mike who has landed his
share of Florida bass (two 7 lb'ers,
a 6 and a 6 1/2 lb'er) during the five years he has been bass
fishing with me on Lake Okeechobee did (on this trip) hook and
land a "huge" bass right behind his wife's trophy catch
that "only" weighed in at 6 3/4 lbs. Mike and
Carol who own and operate greenhouses (Jonesboro, TN - Farm Direct
Greenhouse - Bus. ph: 423-753-8383 - home ph: 423-753-2362) landed
a total of 63 Okeechobee bass in the three days they fished. All
the bass were caught using shiners and all were released. Captain
Ron was their bass fishing guide.
This trophy
bass was caught
by Barbara Turkus (Fords, NJ - ph: 732-738-7613). Barbara also
landed a 6
3/4 lb'er during this trip
(her third) and has a
6
and a 6 1/2 lb'er
mounted from two previous Lake
Okeechobee trips. Her husband Tom (a New Jersey policeman) who
has been out fished by his wife finally hooked and landed a 7
lb. Florida trophy bass. All the fish (approx.
56 bass) were
caught using shiners and were released except the two 7 lb'ers.
Captain Ron was their fishing guide.
This trophy bass was caught by Theresa Hollan
(Austin, IN - ph: 812-794-3894) was the biggest out of a 105 bass she
and her husband Charlie caught during 3 days of wild shiner fishing
on Lake Okeechobee with Captain Ron. This was the very first time
Theresa had ever fished! After getting into this kind of action
she stated "now I know why you guys get so excited when
you talk about fishing".
This Florida trophy bass was caught by Diane
Durbin (Canton, OH - home ph: 216-588-3090). Diane also caught
a 6
1/2 lb'er while her husband
James helped land a few of the 47 Okeechobee
bass landed during the 3 days they fished. All bass were caught
using shiners and were released except the 8 1/2 lb'er. That bass
is hanging in her husband's den! Captain Ron was their fishing
guide.
