LAKE OKEECHOBEE FISHING REPORT: JULY 1998

Lake Okeechobee fishing: the month of July is usually hot during the 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. periods of the day. Afternoon showers are generally cooling down the evenings and turning on the bass. Lots of schooling bass can be spotted in the open pockets of the lake busting shad. My guide parties have been getting into some fast action when these schoolers come threw these pockets. Occasionally we experience a lot of blow-ups where the bass just blow the shiner clean out of the water several times playfully. These blow-up tactics will have a fisherman jumping out of his seat most of the day! Local fishermen have been bringing in limits of bluegills and shellcrackers.

FLORIDA BASS FISHING REPORT: JULY 26, 1998

Kyle & Cassie Cure (Manhattan, KS - ph: 785-494-2571) caught 8 bass up to 6 1/4 lbs. during a half day (July 26, 1998) of wild shiner fishing with Ron’s Guide Service. Cassie caught and released the 6 1/4 lb’er. Bass were taken in the Monkey Box area of Lake Okeechobee.

FLORIDA BASS FISHING REPORT: JULY 25 - 27, 1998

Mike Blessitt (Louisville, KY - ph: 502-935-3809) and Jerry Muss (Louisville, KY - ph: 502-447-8229) caught 48 bass up to 6 lbs. during 3 days (July 25 - 27, 1998) of wild shiner fishing with Ron’s Guide Service. Jerry caught the 6 lb’er. Bass were taken in several areas of the Monkey Box. These boys also caught at least 30 mudfish up to 10 lbs. during the slow periods of fishing.

FLORIDA BASS FISHING REPORT: JULY 24 & 25, 1998

Honeymoon couple Dan & Lacee Sell (Stilwater, KS - ph: 913-851-2044) caught 29 bass up to 5 lbs. during 2 half days of fishing (July 24 & 25, 1998) with Ron’s Guide Service. Although Dan caught the two 5 lb’ers. Lacee whipped him in amount of fish landed. All bass were released and were taken in the Monkey Box area of Okeechobee.

FLORIDA BASS FISHING REPORT: JULY 23, 1998

Nikolai Shepherd & Nicmogas Taylor (York, England - ph: 1904-643150)
caught 22 bass up to 5 lbs. during a half day of fishing (July 23, 1998). These boys who traveled from the country of “England” also went out wild boar hunting on (July 24, 1998) with Ron’s Guide Service. They each killed 2 hogs in the 125 - 150 lb. weight range. Bass were caught in the Monkey Box, hogs were hunted on private land in Lakeport.

FLORIDA BASS FISHING REPORT: JULY 10 - 12, 1998

Had a guide party of 3 persons wild shiner fishing on Okeechobee for 2 half days and 1 full day (July 10 - 12, 1998). Although the fishing was very show they did manage to land and release 19 bass which included a 7 1/4, 6 3/4 and 6 1/2 lb’er. Mike Ruter (Naperville, IL - e-mail: mruter@romac.com) caught the 7 1/4 lb. bass after setting the hook on another fish which turned out to be a mudfish that came out of the water and threw the hook and wild shiner nearly 10 feet in the air where upon hitting the water was immediately hit by another fish which turned out to be the 7 1/4 lb’er! Mike also caught a 6 1/2 lb’er on the last morning of their trip. Dan Mancuso (North Aurora, IL - e-mail: dmancuso@uqsolutions.com or Dmancuso@romac.com) the second fisherman of this group also caught a 6 3/4 lb’er. John Ward (Bolingbrook, IL - e-mail: Ward_John_D@jpmorgan.com) the third fisherman caught most of the 2 - 4 lb. bass that were boated. Fished the North Shore, Monkey Box and several other areas. The big bass were caught in the Monkey Box.

FLORIDA BASS FISHING REPORT: JULY 5 - 10, 1998

Eugene Hamm, his wife Rosemary and 15 year old son Darrell (Wheeling, WV - ph: 304-242-5311) caught 42 bass during 5 days (July 5 - 10, 1998) of wild shiner fishing on Florida’s Lake Okeechobee that included “two” 6 1/2 lb’ers. Eugene and his wife Rosemary each caught a 6 1/2 lb’er. All the bass were released except the 6 1/2 lb’ers which are being mounted. Fished the Monkey Box, North Shore and numerous other areas of Okeechobee trying to find fish that were very reluctant to hit.

Ben and Christine Srock (St. Pete., FL - e-mail: lancair@gte.net) caught and released 17 bass up to 5 lbs. during 2 half days (July 3 & 4, 1998) of wild shiner fishing on Lake Okeechobee with Captain Ron. Fished the Monkey Box area of Okeechobee

This Special Rate of only $180.00 is for 1 person and includes: 2 (four hour) half days of shiner bass fishing, 1 night of motel lodging free of charge, 6 dozen shiners free of charge, USCG licensed guide, bass boat, fuel and all tackle.

Required Deposit for 2 persons is $180.00

Third person 2 half day 1 night rate charge is $100.00 additional and includes 2 (four hour) half days of shiner bass fishing, 1 room for 3 persons for 1 night of motel lodging free of charge, 2 dozen extra shiners free of charge, USCG licensed guide, bass boat, fuel and all tackle.
