Florida Bass Fishing Report: March 1999 Trophy Bass Fishing

FLORIDA BASS FISHING REPORT:
MARCH 1999

Florida bass fishing for trophy bass using a Florida wild shiner during the month of March produced some really exciting bass fishing. The mild weather and a good spawn during March were the ideal conditions needed for the excellent bass fishing this month yielded. Large numbers of Florida bass as well as trophy size bass were caught by guide parties on a consistent basis throughout the month.

Florida bass fishing anglers Ken and son Brian Goldstein (Fairfax Station, VA - e-mail: Ken.Goldstein@metrocall.com or kgold02@eros.com) caught 41 bass that included three 6's and a 7 1/2 lb'er during 3 days (Mar. 30, 31 and Apr. 1, 1999) of wild shiner fishing with Ron's Guide Service. Ken caught two 6 lb'ers while Brian put a 6 and a 7 1/2 lb'er in the boat. They fished several areas (North Shore, Moonshine, Monkey Box) of Lake Okeechobee. All bass were released.

Florida bass fishing anglers Frank Donovan (North Olmsted, OH - ph: 440-779-8014), Bruce Mihalak (Cleveland, OH - ph: 216-941-7213), Charlie Vastch (North Ridgeville, OH) and 4 other guys who fished in 4 separate boats with 4 of Ron's Guide Service pro guides caught and released more than 200 bass that included two 6's, a 7, 8 1/2 9 1/2 and a 10 1/4 lb'er during 3 days (Mar. 29 - 31, 1999) of wild shiner fishing with Ron's Guide Service. Charlie Vastch caught the 10 1/4 lb'er which he released. Frank caught and released the 6, 8 1/2 and 9 1/2 lb'er. Bass where caught in the North Shore, Monkey Box and Moonshine areas of Lake Okeechobee.

Florida bass fishing anglers Jim Kulha (Livonia, MI - e-mail: Jkool92@aol.com) and Jim Jury (Plymounth, MI - e-mail: Jury@mediaone.net) caught 29 bass that included six that were over 5 lbs, three that were over 6 lbs and a 8 lb'er during 2 days (Mar. 29 and 30, 1999) of wild shiner fishing with Captain Ron. Jim Kulha caught the 8 lb'er which he is having mounted. Jim Jury caught and released the 6 lb'ers. Bass where caught in the Monkey Box area of Lake Okeechobee.

Florida bass fishing anglers Mike and son Lucas Lonchar (Gurnee, IL - e-mail: profsr@sisna.com) caught and released about 70 bass up to 5 lbs during 3 days (Mar. 28 - 30, 1999) of wild shiner fishing with Ron's Guide Service. Bass where caught in the Monkey Box and Moonshine areas of Lake Okeechobee.

Florida bass fishing anglers Dennis and son Greg Winterland (Colfax, IL - ph: 309-723-6372) caught 25 bass up to 8 lbs during one day (Mar. 29, 1999) of wild shiner fishing with Ron's Guide Service. Greg caught the 8 lb'er and another 6 lb'er. Greg's dad also landed a 6 and a 6 1/2 lb'er. All fish except the 8 lb'er were released. Bass were caught in the Monkey Box area of Lake Okeechobee

Florida bass fishing anglers John Dubbarley (Columbus, OH - e-mail: jdubbarley@aol.com) caught and released about 40 bass up to 4 lbs during 1 day (Mar. 22, 1999) of wild shiner fishing with Ron's Guide Service. Bass were caught drifting shiners on the North Shore of Lake Okeechobee.

Florida bass fishing anglers Mike Shearman (Savannah, MO - e-mail: mikebechykevin@juno.com), Richard Smith (Mound City, KS) and John O'Brien (Ralston, NE) caught and released about 50 bass up to 5 lbs during 2 half days (Mar. 21 and 22, 1999) of wild shiner fishing with Ron's Guide Service. Bass where caught in the Monkey Box area of Lake Okeechobee.

John Ward caught the 6 lb'er. Bass were caught out of several areas in the Monkey Box,

Bass where caught on the North Shore of of Lake Okeechobee.

Florida bass fishing anglers Dominic Spinale Jr. (Billerica, MA ph: 978-667-4288) and Armand Michand (Naples, FL ph: 941-417-9471) caught and released 52 bass up to 9 1/4 lbs during 3 days (Mar. 5 - 7, 1999) of wild shiner fishing with Ron's Guide Service. Dom landed the 9 1/4 lb'er plus a 6 1/4 lb. bass. Armand landed a 6 lb'er. Bass where caught on the North Shore and Moonshiner areas of Lake Okeechobee.

Florida bass fishing anglers Russ Anderson (Wilmington, MA - ph: 978-658-4770) and Ralph Burpee (Wilmington, MA - ph: 978-658-8053) caught and released about 60 bass up to 5 lbs during 3 days (Mar. 5 - 7, 1999) of wild shiner fishing with Ron's Guide Service. Bass where caught on the North Shore and Moonshine areas of Lake Okeechobee.

Florida bass fishing anglers Art Harris (Harim, GA - e-mail: Art.Harris@medaphis.com) and Paul Turner (Atlanta, GA) caught 30 bass which included two 4 1/2 lb'ers, four 5 1/2 lb'ers, a 6 lb’er and a 7 1/2 lb'er during 3 days (Mar. 2 - 4, 1999) of wild shiner fishing with Captain Ron. These guys on their second fishing trip with us experienced slow fishing due to a cold front. What they didn't do in quantity they did in quality sized bass. All bass were caught in the Moonshine area of Lake Okeechobee. All the bass were live released.

Florida bass fishing anglers Mark Lundergan (Corning, NY - e-mail: Lundergam1@corning.com) and his dad Loren (Radcliff, KY - e-mail: Ldldell@aol.com) on their "second" 3 day fishing trip with us caught and released 56 bass up to 8 1/4 lbs during 3 days (Mar. 1 - 3, 1999) of wild shiner fishing on Lake Okeechobee with Ron's Guide Service. Mark also landed and released a 6 lb'er. Bass were caught on the North Shore and Moonshine areas of Lake Okeechobee. On their first fishing trip (Jan. 16 - 18, 1998) they caught and released 45 bass up to 9 lbs. Mark landed and released the 9 lb'er while his dad Loren landed and released a 6 lb'er.
