Florida bass fishing references
from the state of Iowa. I have put together a Florida bass fishing
report of trophy bass caught using shiners by Iowa residents.
Their name, address, home phone number
and e-mail address (if they have one) are also included
so as to verify the contents and afford prospective clientele
the opportunity to get first hand information from folks who have
fished with our guide service.

LAKE
OKEECHOBEE BASS FISHING REPORT:
JANUARY
23 & 24, 2002
Lake Okeechobee
bass fishing angler Bill Bowe (Princeton, IA - e-mail:
bbowe@bowemachine.com) caught and released 10 bass up to 3 lbs.
during 2 half days (Jan. 23 & 24, 2002) of wild shiner fishing

BASS
FISHING REPORT:
Sept.
6 & 7, 1999
Jeff Schadle and wife (Vinton,
IA - ph: 319-472-5395) caught only 5 bass up to 6 1/2 lbs. during
2 half days (Sept. 6 & 7, 1999) of Florida wild shiner fishing
with Captain Ron. The poor fishing Jeff experienced we figure
was due to heavy evening showers and very hot days. The 6 1/2
lb'er however made Jeff's day. A fish of this size is a trophy
in the state of Iowa! Bass were taken on Okeechobee's North Shore
in the open pockets scattered throughout the open water weed beds.
All the bass were released.
BASS
FISHING REPORT:
May
10 - 14, 1999
Brian Ouderkirk
(Davenport, IA - ph: 319-324-2733) and brother Ed (Davenport,
IA - ph: 319-323-4939) caught
about 80 bass up to 6 lbs during 5 days (May 10 - 14, 1999) of
wild shiner fishing with Captain Ron. Brian caught two bass that
weighed 6 lbs each and an 11 3/4 lb. mudfish. His brother Ed landed
a 5 3/4 lb. bass and several others in the 4 - 5 lb. range. A
pickerel that weighed at least 4 lbs was also boated by Ed. The
best catch of the trip was a 10 1/2 lb. huge bass that I noticed
floating on top of the water struggling to stay submerged. Upon
netting this beauty after several tries, we discovered that it
had a very large fish in its stomach that caused it to be unable
to stay submerged. This trophy bass as of this time is recovering
in one of my shiner tanks. I have been treating it with antibiotics
and will release it in Okeechobee soon. I fished the Monkey Box
and North Shore areas of Lake Okeechobee. All bass caught were
released.
Mark and Nancy Welsh (Iowa City, IA - ph: 319-339-0608 - e-mail:

during a half day (May 6, 1999) of Florida wild shiner fishing
on Lake Okeechobee with Ron's Guide Service. Bass where caught
in the Monkey Box area of Lake Okeechobee.

Just a quick
note to tell you that my wife, Nancy and I had a wonderful trip
to Lake O the first week of May. Our half day trip was made especially
enjoyable by our expert guide!
Since we
have only used your guide service once, I can only assume that
ALL
of your guides are the quality of our guide. Nancy and I have
had guides at
about 2 dozen locations around the world, and your guide has to
be one of the top 1 or two EVER! He took us to fish, coached us and made
us feel right at home in an afternoon that we didn't want to end.
Next time to Lake O,
he will be our guide.
