Cap'n Ron-

WOW!!!! What an incredible day and a half of fishing!!! 40 large mouths caught on shiners and "crazy-hooked" rubber worms. I think even Red Dog was amazed at the action (not to mention the guys in the bass tournament who were lusting after your famous fishing hole). Any way you could send that kind of action up to New York? We'll see you again in a couple months. Next time the honey buns are on Red Dog!

Best regards,

Frank, Kevin & Todd

Ed caught the 7 1/2 lb. and the 6 lb'er. An unusual cold front and windy weather for this time of the year slowed down the fishing action. We boated about 200 fish counting the bowfin (mudfish) up to 10 lbs, catfish and gar. I fished the Point Of The Reef out on the lake when the wind was down. Fished the Harney Pond Canal and Moore Haven Canal areas with good results when the wind was blowing real hard. Both the 7 1/2 lb. and the 6 lb'er were caught in the Harney Pond Canal. Ed caught the 7 1/2 lb'er on a worm (Red Shar Green Glitter) which he was casting while we were wild shiner fishing. Seems best fishing is still in the Harney Pond Canal area of Lake Okeechobee.

Ron:

I enjoyed the trip you organized for me. John is an excellent guide and he
helped me get the right technique for bass.

Dick did a very good job yesterday. I got a hog and the head and skin
are with Bart McGee, a taxidermist Dick recommended, and my father could be elected for office after he gave away a lot of the cuts of meat to his
neighbors in West Palm. What's left is in his freezer.

I'll mail you photos of both bass and the hog.

Please feel free to use me as a reference if it's helpful.

Captain Ron,

We want to thank you for a wonderful three half days of fun fishing. My
father-in-law, my son and I really enjoyed the fishing. Our guide Ken was
great and showed us a good time fishing. He sure knows his stuff when it
comes to fishing the Hay Fields! During our three half days of fishing, we
estimate that at least 100 bass were caught. Our biggest bass were 5 lbs. and
we caught three of these along with several in the 2-3 pound range. We
would suggest that anyone from the snowy north country that needs a fishing
getaway, contact Ron's Guide Service for an unforgettable fishing trip.

Thanks again,

Brad, Gordon and Bart

These two 7 lb'ers were caught by Dick and his dad Bob Monsky (Central Islip, NY - home ph: 516-582-6246 - bus. ph: 716-753-8503). They caught a total of 63 bass during 3 days (Nov. 10 - 12, 1998) of wild shiner fishing with Ron's Guide Service. Besides the two 7 lb'ers, they also had a 6 1/2 and two 6 lb'ers. All the bass were released.

Larry Stowe (New Rochelle, NY - ph: 914-636-3636 - e-mail: DMNPress1@aol.com) and Luis Collazo (Yonkers, NY - ph: 914-423-0152 - e-mail: LAC853@aol.com) caught about 50 bass up to 8 lbs. using shiners during the 3 days (May 27 - 29, 1998) they fished with Ron's Guide Service.

Jim Ramputi (Uniondale, NY - ph: 516-538-3127 - e-mail: Jrflukes@aol.com) caught and released 55 bass up to 6 lbs using shiners during the 3 days (April 15 - 17 1998) they fished with Ron's Guide Service. The North Shore produced this great action.

Lake Okeechobee trophy bass
caught by Anthony Bellino (Cortland Manor, NY - home ph: 914-528-6101, 717-365-1706). Anthony and his wife on his "first" 3 day Lake Okeechobee fishing trip with us also caught a 9 lb. and 6 1/2 lb'er. They also caught 54 other bass from 2-5 lbs. On his "second" 3 day fishing trip he caught "three 7 lb. bass" while his fishing buddy Frank Schury (Ozone Park, NY - home ph: 718-848 -2479) caught "two 7 3/4 lb'ers and a 7 lb. bass". All bass were caught using shiners and were released except the 9 lb. lunker and one 7 3/4 lb'er. Captain Ron was their bass fishing guide.

Mark Lundergan and his dad Loren (Corning, NY - home ph: 607-974-7409 - e-mail: Lundergam1@corning.com) caught and released
45 bass up to 9 lbs. during 3 days Jan. 16 - 18, 1998) of wild shiner fishing on Lake Okeechobee with Ron's Guide Service. Mark landed and released the 9 lb'er while his dad Loren landed and released a 6 lb'er.

7 lb. Lake Okeechobee trophy bass caught by Marty Andermanis (Bronx, NY- home phone: 718-295-3276). Marty and his brother-in-law Mark Roldan (Miami, FL - home phone: 305-559-0557) also landed and released 44 other Okeechobee bass up to 5 lbs. using wild shiners during the 3 days they fished. Captain Ron was their fishing guide.

Had a father and son team out shiner fishing for one and a half days (Dec. 26th. & 27th. 1997). Richard and his eleven year old son Robert (Robbie) Mahler (Staten Island, NY - home ph: 718-967-6859 - e-mail: mahler@aol.com) caught and released
26 bass up to 7 1/2 lbs. We had 10 bass that ran from 4 to 4 1/2 lbs. Robbie hooked and landed the 7 1/2 lb’er all by himself. This bass was first hooked by Robbie’s dad a half hour earlier and got away after it threw the hook when it jumped clear out of the water.... The reason I know it was the same bass is that it had a chunk of flesh “still bloody” ripped out of it's mouth! In the 14 years that I have guided on Okeechobee I would have to say that this has happened several times with clients I have had out. In fact, I have had my clients hook big fish that we saw and lost simply by “immediately” casting a fresh wild shiner right out where they lost the fish. Robbie will never let his dad forget how he lost that 7 1/2 lb’er. I of course helped to add fuel to that memory.

I guided (Feb. 9, 10, 11, 1998) a father and son team, Chris and Brendan Ivory (Holstville, NY - ph: 516-654-0525) to 29 bass up to 9 lbs. Although the fishing was very slow, Chris's son Brendan did manage to catch and released the 9 lb'er. We fished all over the to locate fish. In the end the Spoil Islands gave up the fish. My clients during the slow fishing periods were delighted in watching 4 otters playing around with each other along the weed line we were fishing. A 10 foot plus gator swimming close to the boat was also an added attraction they enjoyed and took pictures of.

Jeff Weininger and wife Mary (New York, NY - home ph: 212-475-7401) caught and released 15 bass up to 6 lbs. All bass were caught using shiners. Fished the point of the reef and out by the twin poles. Most of the fish including the 6 lb’er were caught out in the open water. Seen a lot of schooler bass chasing shad in the late afternoon.

Had a guide party out 3 days fishing with wild shiners. Mike Tegeki (Massapeque, NY ph: 516-795-8717) and his fishing buddie Lou Henningsen (Merrick, NY - ph: 516-377-6590) caught and released 60 bass up to 5 1/4 lbs. Lou hung a big bass which after we got a look at it shook the hook at the back of the boat. The fish would of gone about 8 lbs. We caught most of the bass in the Monkey Box fishing deep in the lilies. Hit some fish around the twin pole area. The artificial fishing has been producing plenty of schoolers. Guide Captain Harry Simmons stopped by me on the lake to chat. Told me he had 23 bass up to 2 lbs. on a flyrod using a popper.

8 1/2 lb. Okeechobee trophy bass was caught by Jack Barnes (Orchard Park, NY - ph: 716-662-0687). Jack also caught 2 other bass that each went 6 1/2 lbs. Jack and his 2 sons Steve Barnes (Buffalo, NY - ph: 716-882-16020), John Barnes (West Seneca, NY - ph: 716-6745863) caught about 30 bass during 2 days of wild shiner fishing with Captain Ron.

6 1/2 lb. Florida Bass caught by Craig Becker. He also caught and released another 6 1/4 lb'er. Craig and his dad Wayne (Middletown, NY - ph: 914-343-2782) and uncle Vernon (Middletown, NY - ph: 914-343-4327) caught over 60 bass during 3 days of wild shiner fishing with Captain Ron.
